I listened to the audio and had a really hard time getting into it, which I didn't understand since it's a genre I should love. The book changes a bit and got slightly more interesting, but I still just didn't like it as much as everyone else. I just felt like all the characters were so angry all the time and I couldn't connect with that. It is worth finishing so you can make a total judgment of the book, but if you still don't love it, you're not the only one!Annie Fhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15278370871933165832noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-50531175651220622312013-01-25T15:32:21.710-06:002013-01-25T15:32:21.710-06:00The Ender's Game series is still one of my all...The Ender's Game series is still one of my all-time favorites. But I understand what you mean - the first book in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series was ok to me, not great, but I really had to force myself to read and finish the second one, and now I just gave up on the third one after only a few pages in. That's how I felt about Alice Sebold's Lovely Bones. Everyone was freaking out about it (even Oprah) and honestly, it was one of the very few books I had to physically force myself to finish. I hated it! I've since realized that there's no shame in just not finishing a book - oh reader's regrets. I say, give it a fighting chance and if it isn't your thing...move on. There are too many amazing books to read ones that you don't love.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-55814304435444078792013-01-24T08:49:44.528-06:002013-01-24T08:49:44.528-06:00I felt the same way about The Hunger Games. I feel like that would be my reaction to a lot of the classic novels that have made such an impact on the world, just because the writing back then was so different & the way they approached overall storytelling is not the way I've learned to appreciate it now. Sometimes that makes me feel like I don't deserve to call myself a book nerd, because I don't even read classics, but I do definitely give them a try once in a while. Good for you for pushing through a little and seeing if this one has potential! Maybe you'll end up leaving it!

PS I am so down to read Bitterblue together! I may try and read a book or two after FIRE so that I can spread them out, but maybe in February we can read it together? I read The Fault In Our Stars last week and I didn't like it at all, even though the majority of the world thinks it's the greatest book ever written. I don't think it's necessarily a bad book, and I completely get why a lot of people like it, but it just wasn't for me. It happens haha.

Also, I love this idea of a link-up. I think it's slow a bit, but it has its philosophies and deeper meanings hidden within the texts. Lots of moral issues pop up as you go. Once you finish that, he has a whole series with the character, though I heard most of the books suck. Except Speaker for the Dead. I think I liked that one better than Ender's Game!

I'm currently reading a stack of parenting books... boring :PChantalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09543581308363689982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-90324208055910873182013-01-24T06:38:27.810-06:002013-01-24T06:38:27.810-06:00I love love love Ender's Game.
