Like, maybe I should have read it a year ago when I first saw it and before I knew it was a "big thing". Anyway, I didn't read it- something to do with that not having a babysitter thing. Which is the same reason I may never see the movie! I did borrow a copy of the book, though, and I do hope to read it eventually.Sadie Dearhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03652915431156627686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-83909518125614661822012-03-27T18:07:59.050-05:002012-03-27T18:07:59.050-05:00Read it. I COMPLETELY agree with #1. I remember one time at school when I made a reference to Harry Potter, and one of my girlfriends said flippantly, "Oh, I've never seen it." I was aghast. "YOU MEAN YOU'VE NEVER READ IT?!?!" I corrected her, maybe a little too forcefully. That broke my heart, that people would associate Harry Potter with a movie franchise before the book series. Sigh...

Great post! And I think you avoided sounding whiney or "soapbox-y" by your sweet little addition at the end, commending all the book and film fans for The Hunger Games. :)Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08797568345510218583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-37693281399978831252012-03-26T10:46:19.032-05:002012-03-26T10:46:19.032-05:00You are so right. And I also love it when books you love has been turned into movies. I've seen the movie Twilight and I honestly couldn't understand what's the craze all about. ;( Probably because I'm not a big fan of the actor who played Edward. The movie ruined it for me but I still plan on reading the book series soon. ;) I'm also a big fan of the Harry POtter books and I can enjoy watching the movies again and again.
Anyway, I don't plan on watching The Hunger Games until I've read the book. Period. I have yet to join a particular craze soon but not this time.arvee mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00251729461931945502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-69935703071615521422012-03-26T08:36:24.754-05:002012-03-26T08:36:24.754-05:00If you can't beat them join them** is what I m...If you can't beat them join them** is what I meant to write.

I'll stop hogging your comments section now.

Also... This post. Right here. Yes. Where do I s...OKAY hi. This post. Right here. Yes. Where do I start.

First of all, I sincerely agree with you on almost everything here. But here's the thing, if you can beat them, join them! I know that's a crappy mentality sometimes, but I am such a lover of Hunger Games & so many other books that have been adapted, it's hard not to get atleast SOMEWHAT caught up in the whole thing. I go through the same thing with musicians on a regular basis. I find this gem of an artist that I pray stays small so I can enjoy them all to myself, but doesn't all the fame they later get mean great things? It means they're worth all the time I put into it for all those years before. I read Twilight BECAUSE of the movies to be honest. You'll always have the people who walk into a bookstore and say "Oh was this written because of that movie?" and those people want to make me bang my head against a wall. But there will ALWAYS be the book lovers. There will always be the people who read the books. I have worked in a bookstore long enough to promise you this is true. Those books are SO amazing, I would have been sad if they stayed small and unknown forever. My job is to push books, so it only makes sense I want everyone to read them.

I saw the movie last night and honestly, book-to-movie adaptations will ALWAYS get mixed reviews but Jess? It was GOOD. They made it make SENSE. Considering the book, I was impressed. I was excited, giddy, and so happy to see it come to life before my eyes. And honestly? It hasn't changed the books for me. I want to go back and re-read them. I think of Harry Potter coming to life on the big screen and that upset me for SO long... But then going to HP world and having it come to life for me too because of the movies? That was AMAZING.

This comment is becoming really long. I hope I kind of conveyed to you though that through all the money and the ridiculous people and everything, just try not to think about it. Go see it for yourself because you loved the books, and just let the fun of it take you away a little! You love these books, you deserve to be a part of the fun.

That doesn't mean we have to be all TEAM PEETA or TEAM GAYLE because I am just NOT on board with that.

:)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-33013817621636675162012-03-26T06:03:18.985-05:002012-03-26T06:03:18.985-05:00I completely understand where you are coming from....I completely understand where you are coming from.. I still hate that when I re-read Harry Potter I see Emma Watson in my head in place of the Hermione I once imagined, same as Bella.. The Bella in my imagination looked nothing like a certain sulky faced actress..
And I hate to think people don't read the books but choose to wait for the movie.. My Sisters Keeper is such a good example of a film adaptation gone wrong.. Jodi Picoult herself has so much to say on the matter..Kate Sparkleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02168334536598675361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-61688614285875800422012-03-26T00:39:13.978-05:002012-03-26T00:39:13.978-05:00Hi :) I completely agree with you on this topic an...Hi :) I completely agree with you on this topic and I had to share the fact that I have felt the same about watching the movie Hunger Games simply because of the hype that went with Twilight. Yep I am a Twilight book lover and I enjoyed the movies and will be looking forward to the final instalment. Yet the hype that went with it and the craziness I did not get swept up in that at all. I love books being made into movies (Harry Potter for one!) but as I am going of on a tangent here I will wrap up and simply say I agree with what you wrote. :)Leighhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03237343965139436966noreply@blogger.com
