I think it undermines some really great books.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-50900868373580135562013-08-26T10:53:46.220-05:002013-08-26T10:53:46.220-05:00I wrote this on Megan's blog, but I think chic...I wrote this on Megan's blog, but I think chick lit is a very poor term for a great genre of books. It encompasses a lot of the BIG novels that defined me growing up and I think there are a lot of wonderful lady writers out there who get it right on the money. You just have to find the good ones! melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04054076806925773231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-7799077694782256822013-08-23T10:27:54.104-05:002013-08-23T10:27:54.104-05:00Hah, we ended up writing really similar posts - I ...Hah, we ended up writing really similar posts - I still think it's crap (not our posts but the gender inequality) ;)Franhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05955549713159108224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-66152167113737506232013-08-23T10:08:34.138-05:002013-08-23T10:08:34.138-05:00I hate the term chick lit! It makes it sound like ...I hate the term chick lit! It makes it sound like we're just a bunch of airheads reading about trivial things. I would hate to be an author and have my work labeled as chick lit as well; I guess I think of it as a derogatory term almost, I don't know why. Grrrr. Haha. :) Mia @ The Chronicles of Chaoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08982605259699460062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-27574399820102458932013-08-22T23:56:38.576-05:002013-08-22T23:56:38.576-05:00What you said about "men's literature&quo...What you said about "men's literature" reminds me of why some people say we have "women's history" and "black history" months: Because every month is white men's history month haha. So maybe general literature is white male literature, therefore we have to identify "chick lit"? Hmm, interesting thoughts.... Thanks for sparking my interest in this topic! After the research I did for my post this week, I've decided calling something "chick lit" gives it a lighthearted connotation, so I still refuse to categorize my favorite female authors (e.g. Jodi Picoult, Audrey Niffenegger, etc.) as "chick lit" authors because their stories cover very deep issues.Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08797568345510218583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2565520433167714928.post-9826901816984721512013-08-22T17:18:26.593-05:002013-08-22T17:18:26.593-05:00When I prepared my post for this book chat, I did ...When I prepared my post for this book chat, I did not even think twice about the term. A few books and series came to mind and I did not question the term. I'm quite enjoying reading everyone's views on this! As with anything.. a genre is a tag and everything can't be categorize. At least not perfectly. It's a whole category to me that's seems to be where books that look pretty are shelved.

I love reading everyone's takes this week. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
