yellow & blue

Just playing around, trying to find the look I want for homecoming in June.
I really love this yellow & blue combination. So sweet.

So, what do you all think? As always, I adore your feedback. :)

live music heaven

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

It was a fabulous one here. First, thanks to all of my new followers! You
guys really made my birthday that much more special.

So, Saturday was the Iron & Wine concert & it was AH-mazing. If you're not familiar with them, and you like indie, folk music, check them out. There was literally a banjo, keyboard, 2 guitars, 2 back-up singers, a saxophone, a trumpet, bongo drums, and more on stage playing at the same time. Oh & of course Sam Beam's sensational voice. Such an enjoyable orchestration of sound. My head was a boppin & my foot was a tappin for like 2 hours straight.

One of the best part of this concert was actually during the opening band. We learned that when everyone in the crowd calls the person next to them & puts their phones on speaker, it sounds REALLY COOL. I am a sucker for live music.

I miss concerts like crazy. I haven't had the chance to attend many since I became Mommy.

But most of all I think I just really enjoyed being downtown without the kiddos. Some not-Mommy time was desperately needed.

Did anyone else enjoy some live music over the weekend?

Stop the bus & prepare to be Inspired

Out of pure curiosity, R.P. & I took a little trip downtown Friday to check out exactly what a Tea Party rally looks like (in short, it looks like the original Tea Party members have reconvened...sorry I'm shameless). Anyway, that turned out to be lame, lunch was a bust & I was having an allergy attack from hell. Trip wasn't looking good...but alas, it redeemed itself when we came across what could possibly be the COOLEST BUS EVER.

But first. These two melted my heart & I wanted to take them home with me. They are salt & pepper shakers, but I'm thinking garlic salt. {giggle} I'm cheesy like that.
I'll be back for you two.

Ok...about the bus. Here it is from afar. It caught our attention...and we're never ones to pass up something intriguing. Especially when the cameras are in tow. As we shuffled over, I had to remind my little hippie pal...Whatever you do, do NOT get on that bus. She resisted...good girl. One of us has to be the paranoid skeptic.

Turns out it was NOT a cult. Whew. Apparently, it's a father of three named Bob who made over an old bus & drives around the country with his pooch, Bogart, stopping at campuses & schools to discuss charity & kindness. Yeah, cool. You can read more about it here.

There was so much to look at on this bus. We stood there for probably 30 minutes reading it. Here are some of my favorite parts...

Isn't it just inspiring?!
Well done, Bob. And you too Bogart.

Homecomings & The Perfect Dress

In life there are a few special occasions that prompt one to buy a special outfit. Easter, wedding, rare & elusive date night, graduation, etc. In the military, we have homecomings. Homecomings are….ahhh how to say in words? Ever YouTubed a military homecoming? Ok, then you know. They are spectacular. Allow me to paint the scene for you

A crowd of anxious family members gather together on bleachers. They endure torturing anticipation while their soldiers slowly march in. Homemade signs of every size & design are splattered across the hangar. Tiny little hands wave tiny little American flags. Patriotic country songs play on the loud speakers while a montage of the soldiers is playing on a big screen. Someone with high rank & authority steps up to the podium to commend the heroes on their hard work. At last, the moment comes when the big man behind the podium announces “Go greet your families” and a sea of camouflage uniforms spill over into the crowd. Madness ensues. Cue the kissing, crying, running, hugging, laughing.

It’s wonderful. Sigh.

So, on that note…I need a dress! I regretfully admit that in the past, I would throw on a pair of jeans & a top & say “I’m going as ‘me’”. Knowing that it’s me that he wants to see and he probably doesn’t care what I’m wearing at that moment. Still…I think finding the perfect dress is just part of the anticipation build-up time. There is a laundry list of things that a wife does to prepare for homecoming (clean out the garage, shave your legs, that sort of thing) and there is something significant about being able to tackle this list. Preparing for homecoming means he’s coming home! Well, buying a new dress is on that list. For such a ceremonious event, it needs to be perfect. For some reason, I’m seeing yellow. Perhaps because of the yellow ribbon. Or maybe I just want to stand out. When that crowd of soldiers disperse among the family members, I want him to see me right away. It’s not like I’ll stand out as the excited wife with two kids.

So here are a couple pieces of inspiration…

Love to hear what you think! And if you find something out there that seems like what I’m looking for…do share!

Chasing away the "Mondays"

Just when the stress started to creep in on this beautiful, sunny Monday, baby JuJu and I put on some of this...

I love seeing him laugh at me while I dance around like a fool. This cute little kid-friendly remake of the Marley classics will brighten any ones day.

"Rise up this morning, smile with the rising sun.
Three little birds perched by my door step,
singing sweet songs, a melody that's pure and true,
saying, This is my message to you
...

Don't worry about a thing, cause every little thing is gonna alright
"

Gotta love that message.
Hope everyone has a BEAUTIFUL day!

Real Heroes

Did you know that April is Month of the Military Child?

Sadly, I think so few people know about this month-long dedication to our mini-heroes. Even worse, with all of the talk of foreign affairs & troop deployments, we rarely talk about what the kids have to struggle with.

I don't need to go into detail about all they endure & sacrifice because I'm sure you're already aware. Year long deployments, stressed out parents, frequent moves, and the list goes on. The amazing thing about them though is that they do it all with a smile & never fail to brighten my day.

So if you know any military brats, be sure to give them an extra hug this month. Make sure they know you support & appreciate them.

You kids rock!!

In an attempt to get rid of this block I've got, I'm playing along with this cute little game I came across on The Little Things We Do. (great blog btw) Not to mention, it was kinda fun :) Hopefully, this will help get the juices flowing...

So here are the questions...
1. Write your name & blog name
2. Blog address
3. Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"
4. Favorite quote
5. Favorite song
6. Favorite band/singers
7. Anything else you want to say :)

Only rule is it has to be written down. So here it is!

Blogger's Block

If you're a blogger then maybe you've experienced this. I feel like I have so many things to say, but I'm having a hard time expressing them in words. I'm working on it, and I will get through this.

But until then, read this...then live by it. It's a blog post from my awesomely inspirational friend who has decided to no longer talk about "taking life by the horns" and actually doing it. I love that.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend so far!
