2011 Favorites - Fashion Favorites - Guest Post {The Beginning of Everything}

Today's 2011 Favorites guest post is from Amanda & she is here to school us all in fashion!   I wish these outfits existed in my closet right now, no joke.  And if you're attending a big New Year's Part-ay, here you go- stellar inspiration headed your way.

Hey everyone! This is Amanda from The Beginning of Everything. I am so honored to be doing a guest post for Jessica for her 2011 Favorites series. Her blog is one of my favorites to read. But of course you know that because you're here! She suggested I write about my favorite 2011 Polyvore looks.
Um, hello perfection!
If you know me, you know I love fashion. I read Vogue and In Style like no one's business, and a big reason I'm eventually going for my PhD is so that I can get a well-paying job, and thus buy more clothes. Nothing makes me happier than shopping. Isla Fischer in "Confessions of a Shopaholic"? That's me. Minus the $16,000 debt. Call me materialistic, but I just can't get enough clothes. Which is why I love Polyvore. It's virtual shopping! And guess what... I can "virtually" afford everything

Without further ado, here are some of my favorite Polyvore looks:
{I would strangle someone to actually own that purse.}

{My favorite outfit ever created.}

{A Christmas outfit. I die.}

And last but not least...
{Sparkles! What girl doesn't love sparkles?}
I hope that you enjoyed learning about my favorite Polyvore outfits from 2011. I hope to have many more in the New Year, and the years to come. Maybe I'll even splurge on that purse in real life once I land my first book deal. What? A girl can dream {about Michael Kors}.
If you want to hop on over to my blog, you can do so by visiting me here!

Thanks so much Amanda!!  It's so nice to have a fashion-wise friend.  I could totally see us shopping together.

2011 Favorites - Favorite Accomplishment - Guest Post {Ballistic Gypsy}

Today's "2011 Favorites" guest post comes from a very special friend of mine. My sister blogger.  I'm very grateful that she's sharing her favorite moment of 2011, while it's really not mine since it's part of our geographic separation, I am very happy for her family & this very BIG moment.
Without further ado...

Hello wanderers.  I’m Becky, the creator behind Ballistic Gypsy.  I'm a Libra, a sometimes blogger, a list maker, dog lover, full time mother, & occasional tree hugger.

2011 favorites...
How can I pick just one favorite? 2011 was an action packed year full of change.
I was able to make some progress on my Life List, or as others call it, a “Bucket List”. I’m not a fan of the phrase, Bucket List. It sounds so morose. Anywho- Life List Number 48: “Buy a house, then spend the next several years making it my dream home” We did it. We took the suffocating plunge and bought a house. Our first house. It is by far, not my Dream Home, but it is a work in progress and I feel more like an adult nowadays. From here on out, we are taking life one DIY at a time.

It is still hard to believe that we left our home in Savannah, Ga. and moved over 1700 miles away to the Southwestern side of Texas. (Thank you, Army. I owe you one.)

During our weeklong road trip hauling two kids, one large dog, driving two vehicles and towing a third, we endured two highway blowouts, a cracked windshield, a nervous Great Dane, and many tears shed by all. On the up side, we crossed paths with your host, Jessica and her family as they were returning from their “Great American Road Trip.” It was cold, it was windy, and there was lots and lots of rain, but we weathered the storm and spent an hour together at a truck stop McDonalds in the middle of nowhere, to say our goodbyes. It was a sad day, although exciting as well.
So here we are. A new state, a new home, and a new life. This may not be my current favorite of 2011, nevertheless it is, by far, the most memorable. Years from now, I will most likely look back and remember this as a Favorite of 2011.

To check out more from Becky, check out her blog. You won't regret it.
Thanks Becky!!

2011 Favorites - Favorite Moment - Guest Post {A Little Something}

Hello friends.  Today's guest post is from Kristy who shares her favorite big moment of 2011.
Thanks so much for sharing, Kristy!!
Oh & today is her daughter's birthday so pop over & say Happy Birthday!
Hi! I'm Kristy and I blog over at A Little Something. It's chock full of my life with my hubby M, our daughter Lia & our stinky dachshund Toby. I write about the things that make my heart happy.

I am so excited to be a part of Jessica's sponsor swap! As part of the sponsor swap she thought it would be fun to ring in the New Year with some of our favorites of 2011.

I have a horrible memory. Really guys, I had to skim back through my old blog posts to jog my memory on what 2011 held for me. It's been a long year! We had a house flood, my husband was discharged from the military and unemployed for about 7 months, we moved from New York to North Carolina to live with my parents and then M took a job offer and we moved to South Carolina.

That's a lot for one year. And a lot of this year wasn't so great for me. I struggled in my marriage, I struggled with being a mom, I struggled with myself. So, I'd have to say my favorite moment is the moment my husband called to tell me he accepted a job offer and we were moving to South Carolina within two weeks. I was ecstatic!

I remember that day so clearly. I had taken Lia out for a Target + snowcone run. Because who can't be cheered up by that combo? We had just finished our snowcones and I was getting her settled in her carseat when the phone rang. At the time, M was working a temp job with a hurricane cleanup crew. It was M and he asked if I was sitting down. I said I was and he told me he had been offered an awesome job (the job we had been hoping for) and we were moving. I just cried. I was so happy and SO relieved. I felt like we were all at our wits end with the current situation and we needed a break. We needed a change.

So here we are, at the end of 2011. We've been through so much this year and looking back - I am thankful for everything that happened to us. Good and bad. We learned so much about ourselves and each other. We re-learned to be thankful for everything we do have and not dwell on what we don't have.

Thanks to Jessica for the sponsor swap. I'm so happy I could be a part of it and I hope you come see me over at my blog!

2011 Favorites - Favorite Vacation - Guest Post {Baby in Bulgaria}

Today's guest post comes from Lauren of Baby in Bulgaria.  If you're anything like me, a wanderer at heart, you'll love hearing about her adventures of not only living abroad but traveling abroad as well.

Hello friends of Sweet Green Tangerine!  My name is Lauren and I blog over at Baby in Bulgaria.  I'm so happy to be a guest on Jessica's blog today!  When Jessica asked me to write about a favorite from 2011, I immediately knew what I wanted to share- my favorite vacation.
Last September, one of my travel dreams came true when I went to Greece.  Actually, my in-laws made this trip possible.  For their 25th wedding anniversary they took us all to Halkidiki.  Luckily, since we live in Bulgaria there was no plane ride involved, just a good, old fashioned road trip (Greece is Bulgaria's neighbor to the South).
This was our first vacation with our then 5 month old baby girl, Francie.  Dipping her feet in the sea for the first time, letting her curl her toes in the warm sand, these are memories I hope never to forget.  For two glorious days we relaxed on the beach and forgot all our worries.  We ate freshly caught fish from the sea and sipped on sweet ouzo.  And on our way back to Bulgaria we stopped in Thessaloniki and explored the city on foot.
Greece was not quite as exotic as I'd imagined, but it was absolutely beautiful.  We can't wait to go back someday (maybe in 2012!)  Hands down, my favorite trip in 2011.

2011 - What I read this year...

No wonder I've been in a reading slump lately.  I've been looking back at what I've read this year and it's one of the most disappointing years in literature.  I think it's because it's the first full year I've been out of school.  My brain is under-worked & out of shape.  But nevertheless, here is the list of what I've read this year.  And if you're interested in the other books I've read, you can see my Goodreads account here

The final installment in a very complex, gripping,
fascinating paranormal series.  I couldn't put it down.
4 stars

 Quite enjoyed this one.
Love a good powerful heroine.
4 stars

Came highly recommended from a friend.
It was very well written & at moments I was really feeling it.
3 stars

Go ahead, laugh.
I'm stupid for this series.
This one was no exception
4 stars

Because sometimes, I just need more.
Not as good as the other series
3.5 stars

And yet, another one.
3.5 stars.

Sadly, a series that started out so strong and ended so flat.
Disappointing 3 stars

This series has potential.  Can't wait to see where it goes.
4 stars.

Juvenile.  Unoriginal.
2 stars

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.

(sequel to Birthmarked.) What are you still doing here?
Why aren't you reading this?!

All in all, it was a tough reading year for me.  There were so many half-started, then abandoned books for me and I really hate to do that.  Last year was a banner year for reading but this one was a bit disappointing.  Luckily it ended on a good note with that Birthmarked series.
If you blogged about the books you've read this year, I'd love to see it!  Link up in the comments if you do.

Merry Christmas

Good morning friends!
Our kids were up before the sun anxious to see what Santa left behind.  As a parent, there's nothing better than watching their happy little faces when they open their gifts.
Now we're enjoying some breakfast burritos in our PJ's, watching Christmas movies & playing with all of our new toys.
I feel so blessed & grateful that this Christmas we have Jeremy here to celebrate with us.
I hope you have everything & everyone you want on this special day.

From our family to yours...

Merry Christmas!

Stick around this week for our 2011 Favorites series!

Love the Vlog virus going around.  And this gal answered one of my questions :)  Will I ever do a vlog? Perhaps...

Love this link-up!  Instead of posting a wish list, how about we post the things we already have that we love :) Perfect idea!  Here is mine I did today :)

Did you know I'm on Instagram?  @sweetgreent  Find me!
Tonight after the kiddos are in bed, I plan to watch a marathon of my favorite Christmas movies & have a present wrapping spree.  A few of my favorites...

Have a wonderful Christmas everybody!!

A few of my favorite things

I just love this idea.  Instead of posting what I want, I'm sharing the things that I love owning already.

So yes, I would enjoy having a new pair of Toms, a MacBook, or a Keurig, but I really can't complain.
At least these things above are 8 things I don't have to put on my wishlist.
I'm a lucky gal.

11 Jessica'isms.

What a way to end the year.  Sharing a little bit about me.
If you haven't seen this yet, it's a little survey bloggers are doing where they share 11 random things, answer 11 questions, create 11 questions & tag 11 people.  (2011..get it?)  Well, I was two people in one day.  woop woop.

Here are the rules.

  1. You must post these rules.
  2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
  3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post. Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
  5. No tag backs and you legitimately have to tag 11 people.

11 things you may not know about me...

  1. I love mermaids.
  2. I have 3 tattoos...all of which my brother did for me when he first started tattooing.  He is currently working in a shop in the San Diego area & I am REALLY itching for a new one.
  3. I love coffee & drink way too much of it.
  4. I really want to be a vegetarian, but cheeseburgers are just so damn good.
  5. I occasionally indulge in cheesy vampire romance novels.
  6. I share a birthday with William Shakespeare.
  7. I pretty much think Audrey Hepburn is the most beautiful, classy, compassionate person there ever was.
  8. I don't like clubs, only bars with good music, good beer & friendly people.
  9. My husband makes me laugh more than anyone.
  10. If I could make a career out of going to school, I would. (I practically have)
  11. I share the same initials (middle name included) with my husband, his dad, his brother, his nephew & our two kids.  That's a little weird, if you think about it.
Okay...since I was tagged by two people & don't want to choose only one set of questions, I'll answer 6 from one & 5 from the other...

Melissa asked...

  1. Favorite vacation you've taken so far in your life?  I'd have to say my favorite is the weekend trip Becky & I took to Atlanta.  We initially went to see a concert, A Fine Frenzy, but literally drove into the city as the concert was starting, only to find out she had the flu & was not performing.  Nevertheless, we had the time of our lives!  We snuck into another concert, fell in love with the most hipster neighborhood has ever been (Little Five Points), almost walked into a gay bar called Three Legged Cowboy, ended up at a random hippie bonfire in the middle of nowhere & stayed on the 54th floor of the round hotel downtown.  It was a magical, magical weekend & I seriously would give anything to relive it.
  2. You’re stranded on a desert island and you can’t have any technology, way off the island, makeup, or soap. What do you bring?  Oooh good one.  I'll say my guitar because then I'd have nothing stopping me from actually learning to play it.
  3. Favorite movie?  Who can actually answer this with one title?  So I'll break it down to sub-genre's.  Classic - Roman Holiday.  Musical - Across the Universe.  Comedy - Shakespeare in Love  Drama'ish - Waitress.  Kids - How to Train Your Dragon. Foreign - Amelie. Fantasy - Fellowship of the Ring.  Christmas - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.  Book adaptation - Pride & Prejudice (new one).
  4. Do you have any obsessions?  Thrifting.  It's addicting.   That & buying fabric.  I have more fabric than finished projects.
  5. What do you really want to accomplish in 2012?  I'm starting a list now but I'd really like to take a picture a day, keep in touch with my brother & sister more, learn to knit & play the guitar, be able to run a mile (yes I'm that bad at running) and go to at least one big music festival (Bonnaroo preferred).

Becky asked...

  1. How many books do you usually read per year? I aim for at least 12.  Last year it was probably around 20 but this year it was only 10.  Rough year.
  2. What style music moves and inspires you?  Anything with passion & power.  Stuff like Mumford & Sons & Swell Season where they tend to be strumming so hard you can feel it & they are sing-shouting.  But also the really tender music that touches your soul.  I gather so much inspiration from music it's ridiculous. I love this question.
  3. Have you ever been cow tipping or snipe hunting?  Oh Becky.  I love you & miss you terribly. I even want to know what snipe hunting is??
  4. Do you have any strange phobias?  I used to be afraid of/sickened by mounted animal heads.  When I was little, my parents would have to walk me out of restaurants because there were deer heads on the wall. I can handle them now even though I still think it's a morbid/caveman tradition, but I'll have you know I married an avid hunter.  He owns a deer head he shot when he was 16 and it is not allowed into my house.
  5. What colors inspire you? I am really into the vintage hues right now.  Burnt sienna, mustard, maroon, eggplant.
  6. What fashion faux pas are you guilty of? I play it too safe.  I don't think I even participate in fashion enough to consider anything I do a faux pas, but I am making it one of my 2012 goals to try to take more pride in my look.
Great questions ladies!!!

Here are my 11 questions...

  1. What names did you have picked out for your kids when you were little?
  2. What's your favorite YouTube video?
  3. What is something/someone you are currently missing?
  4. Which of your Pinterest boards has the most pins? (and if you're not of Pinterest, let me know & I'll get you an invite)
  5. What is something you are proud of yourself for?
  6. Do you have any vices/bad habits?
  7. Name a Fictional character you want to be more like.
  8. Share a quote that you feel defines your personality/philosophy.
  9. What is/was your favorite children's book?
  10.  What is the most played song in your playlist/iTunes?
  11. What is your favorite era/cast of Saturday Night Live?

    My Favorite Albums of 2011

If you are a lover of new music (a.k.a. nerd like me) then you may have noticed the multiple lists of "Top # albums of 2011" released by magazines & websites like Pitchfork or Under the Radar. <--personal faves of mine.

While I agree with SOME of these lists, I figured, Hey...why don't I make my own list?  Not that anyone really cares what I was loving this year, it would be nice to have a list like this recorded for my own nostalgic desires.
So, here ya go...SGT's top 10 albums of the 2011.

    #10 - Foster the People - Torches
I jammed the crap out of songs I still don't understand.

    #9 - Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes
    powerful woman.
    love her.

#8 - The Civil Wars - Barton Hollow
This album serenaded me through the saddest parts of my year.

    #7 - Adele - 21
This isn't exactly my usual genre, but I'm not deaf you know.

#6 - The Decemberists - The King is Dead
    The soundtrack to my summer.

    #5 - Florence & the Machine - Ceremonials
You gotta give this one credit.  It JUST frickin came out & it's already rocked my socks off & landed itself in the #5 spot.

#4 - Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean
SO much love for Iron & Wine. Top 3 musicians for me. No doubt.  And if we were talking about The Shepherd's Dog, it would be at least at #2.  In it's defense, I don't think I'm being fair because I just always listen to The Shepherd's Dog rather than this.  Still love it though.

#3 - Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys
    Life. is sweet.
    Stay young go dancing.
    Loved this album.

    #2 - Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
You made me love you.  I didn't want to do it.

    And the #1 spot...
    drum roll please.....

    #1 - Bon Iver - Bon Iver
You know when your favorite band comes out with a new album and you're really excited about it, but at the same time very hesitant because you just never think it will live up to the pure awesomeness of it's first album which stole your heart, and then you do listen to it & realize that it may actually be better than the first and you wonder HOW!
That was this album for me.
    stole my heart.
    BEST of the year.

Oh my Gosh that was SO hard!!  I felt like I was choosing between friends.  The #1 was, well, obvious.  But then 2-10 were so close that they're all pretty even in my book.  What a fabulous year for music.  However, I look forward to 2012.  Maybe a new Mumford album?  Or Edward Sharpe?  Swell Season!?  Oooh I'm excited!

What about you?  What was your favorite of the year?  If you do a similar post, I'd love to see it.  Link up in the comments!
